RE: Rear View Monitor died?

The image had been intermittent, with the screen going dark...but now, I no longer receive any image. Could you be more specific about the term 'going dark'? I had a similar problem with an intermittent image and then finally no image. The monitor was still 'on' but with no picture. We are discussing a similar problem here.

RE: Rear Camera Problems

thanks for the link and info. I see they sell it only with camera but that is ok, if I need the camera. are those wires color coded or anything? I don't know how much extra wire I have if I can get at it to cut the wires, etc. Red is Positive, Black is Negative, White is Audio and Clear is Video. These instructions show more.

RE: Rear Camera Problems

since they solved your problem, how about mine? my volume works fine, but my camera quit working suddenly. there are flashes of light on screen on occasion so I assume tube is working? checking for voltage at the camera end seems like first step? what is second? Your camera might be bad. My camera had been working intermittently for years and then finally died. The camera case had developed tiny stress cracks and had let moisture inside. That was beginning of the end for the camera. I picked up a new black/white Voyager camera from eBay for $35 and my problems were solved. thanks, I will check to be sure I am getting juice to the camera, and I suppose that might be my next step. you say Voyager camera, I have a sony system. are the cameras more or less the same? bumpy The cameras are generally the same. The connectors are different and an adapter would be needed unless you wish to cut the ends and do the wiring yourself.

RE: Rear Camera Problems

There are four wires coming from the camera. Positive, Negative, Video and Audio. I would disable the connection to the audio wire. It might be as easy stuffing scotch tape into the hole for the audio at the connector. The plug wiring is in the manual. Download the manual here.

RE: What a scam looks like

Nigerian scammers. They really think people are that stupid... Unfortunately, people are that stupid:( I've seen reports on TV showing whole towns in Nigeria where their income was primarily from scamming. They had many different buildings loaded with people sitting in front of computers. They make a great living preying off of the uninformed. The Nigerian government does nothing because millions of dollars that are being generated.

RE: Converter Charger problem

Remove the lower part of the unit, gut the case of all parts and install a Progressive Dynamics converter. A PD9160 or the PD9260 are 60-amp models equipped with a 3-stage smart charger and are the largest you can buy while still fitting inside the old converter case. The PD9160 and PD9260 have the same functionality but the PD9160 has an externally mounted charge wizard. The PD9260 has it mounted internally. I prefer the externally mounted one because it has the option to 'fast charge' the battery via a blue button. There are several factory rebuilt Progressive Dynamic chargers that can be purchased on eBay (got mine for $115).

RE: Long Term Durability of a Not So High End Motorhome

My '93 (built in '92) is 16 years old and has over 130,000 miles on it. It is an entry-level diesel pusher. I've had it for 5 years and have had some parts do fail due to fatigue and use, but it has held together for the most part. As of right now, it is fully functional. I feel confident about heading out on a trip across country because I know that the maintenance is up to date. If you are happy with it and plan to keep up the maintenance, then don't be worried about it holding up over the long haul.

RE: Winnebago Chalet 35J ???

I used to work for a car rental agency. I've seen what 4,000 rental miles can do to a brand new car. Most cars were sold (disposed of) after 20,000 miles. There were a few cars that kept missing the disposal guy because they were out being rented. These few cars managed to get 40,000 miles and were ready for the junk yard. Cars can take a lot more abuse than motorhomes can. A great deal of abuse (intentional or not) can be done in a 4,000 mile period. If the motorhome was taken on ONE cross-country trip, you might be OK. If the motorhome was taken on TWENTY short trips to muddy/beer-soaked/cigarette-smoked football tailgates by a bunch of 'dudes', I'd walk away from it. Still not convinced? Rent 'RV' starring Robin Williams. There is a LOT of truth to that movie. As far the $20,000 price discount. In this market, you could do better than that while negotiating on a new one.

RE: Hydrogen Generator Cell Technology????

This subject was recently covered on an episode of MotorWeek. The hydrogen generator was shown hooked up in its water filled glass bottle. The effect was negligible and was determined to be a colossal waste of money. The mechanic calculated that you would need a glass bottle the size of several tanker trucks to store the (uncompressed) hydrogen needed to power the vehicle. The amount of energy need to make the hydrogen would be way more than a vehicle's alternator could reasonably produce.

RE: Heading Out For New Years

I had 6 months off this year (no pay). It wasn't very relaxing and the motorhome sat most of the time:( I'm sure he didn't mean 10 months...but in this economy, maybe he did:E

RE: Coach Goofs

I have a routine of checking things prior to putting it in Drive. If I get distracted, important things get missed, so try to ignore the 'noise' until I'm done. If I can't avoid a distraction, I'll start all over again from the beginning. Motorhomes are very needy. Careful as I am, there are always 3 to 7 items on my 'fixit' list after every trip.

RE: Vector/B&D vs Schumacher Chargers

I have a Vector 2/10/40 3-stage charger. It has done a great job over the last several years. It charged my two house batteries faster than the stock converter ever could (I've since installed a better converter/charger). It has even got me out of a jam when the alternator died on me while 800 miles from home. I hooked it up to the chassis battery, plugged it into the 120V outlet and turned on the generator. The charger was able to take the place of the bad alternator for the whole 800 miles.

RE: Problem w/awning pull down strap- need your ideas

Answer: Keep your awning rod hanging from the loop as you roll it up. The weight of the rod will keep enough of the loop exposed for the next trip.

RE: toad pulling

I have four fuses that need to be pulled in my '97 Cutlass (same as a Chevy Malibu). I bought a 4-pole switch, 4 in-line fuse wires and attached 8 blades into the block where the old fuses were. One flip of the switch and I'm ready to go.

RE: First post - Class A question 30amp question

I have an older coach which has no energy management system. You could only run one A/C at a time when plugged in. A few hot summer days in Las Vegas was the motivation I needed to fix that problem. I have done (and what several others have done) is to wire up the back A/C to a separate cord. By intercepting the electrical line that goes from the back A/C to the generator, you can now plug it into the generator (as originally configured) or plug it into a separate 20-amp outlet.

RE: No cruise control

Is the vacuum pump working? The vent controls and the cruise control need a vacuum source. Diesel engines do not produce vacuum so an electric pump is used. When my pump failed, the cruise control stops functioning and the vents defaulted back to their fail-safe mode of 'defrost/defog'. Are you still able to direct air to the heating vents or the regular air vents? If not, you have a vacuum leak or a bad pump.

RE: Winterizing--blowing the lines out

I blow out the water, pump in the pink and blow out the pink. You could store your motorhome at North Pole safely using that method:)
